Popular Authors, by Sue Culhane

Every January various lists are produced marking the important events of the previous year. It seems that every newspaper and TV channel composes its own. In keeping with this tradition here is a list of some of the most popular authors that the patrons of the Temiskaming Shores Public Library have enjoyed over 2012.

Jodi Picoult continues to be very popular.  Her latest book “Lone Wolf”, published in 2012, is her 18th and there is always a huge demand for her work. Kate Morton may not be as prolific as Picoult – she has a total of four novels published but she has attracted a loyal readership. Her latest book “The Secret Keeper” has been checked out constantly since it was added to the collection.

Louise Penny has written 8 books in her mystery series featuring Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and her books are receiving more critical acclaim as the series moves forward. “The Beautiful Mystery” was published in 2012 and not only stands out as an excellent mystery but also takes the reader into the beautiful world of Gregorian chant.

The recent emergence of mystery writers from Scandinavia has been an exciting event in the literary world particularly for readers of mystery. Camilla Lackberg has written a number of books and her fans eagerly await the translation of yet another novel. The latest addition to the collection in Haileybury is “The Drowning” and this joins five others on the shelves.

Lee Child is the author of a very popular series featuring the hard-nosed Jack Reacher. Again, when the announcement of a new publication is made the Library receives many requests for the latest book. “A Wanted Man” is the title of Child’s latest book and the fact that the movie “Jack Reacher” starring Tom Cruise has just been released will certainly raise the stakes!

So, these are just a few of the authors that have remained consistently popular throughout 2012. It is exciting to see what 2013 will bring!
